The studio
Editors who watch the graph, not the clock.
Roughcut is a video editing studio in Lisbon. We cut short form, long form YouTube and podcast clips for creators and brands who have the footage and not the hours.
We started as two editors who were tired of handing over videos and never hearing how they did. So we made the numbers part of the job: every edit leaves with a hook, a structure and a reason for each cut, and comes back with its retention graph.
- Since
- 2019
- Videos cut
- 1,900+
- Turnaround
- 72 h

Timeline
Seven years on one track.

Two editors, one sofa
Roughcut starts in a Lisbon flat with two laptops and one travel channel that needs a video a week.

The retention desk
We stop judging edits by taste and start judging them by the graph. Every cut gets a retention review before it ships.

Short form, every day
The first daily channel signs. We build the 72 hour pipeline and the shared footage folder that every client still uses.

Six editors, six lanes
Each editor takes one format and stays in it. Long form, short form, podcasts, captions, motion and thumbnails.

1,900 videos later
140 channels, one studio, the same rule as day one: the edit is done when people watch it to the end.
How we work
Three rules we do not cut.
- Rule 0101 / 03

The graph decides
We read retention before we read comments. If viewers leave at second nine, the cut at second eight is wrong.
- Rule 0202 / 03

One editor per channel
The person who learns your voice in week one is the person who cuts for you in month twelve.
- Rule 0303 / 03

Nothing ships unwatched
Every export is watched start to finish by a second editor, on a phone, with the sound off and then on.
